Service Description
Melt stress, improve circulation and bolster your immunity with this Western classic - Swedish massage is one of the most popular bodywork therapies in the West and requires specialized training and certification to practice. Physiologist, gymnastics instructor and fencing master of the 1700’s, Per Henrik Ling, combined movement and massage as an effective tool to help with pain management, injury rehabilitation, stress reduction, circulation and flexibility while promoting the body’s natural immune system. Although Swedish bodywork is more superficial than many realize, so it is often complemented by Deep Tissue to increase pressure and treat specific problem areas. Swedish massage is conducted with the client fully disrobed and covered on a treatment table while lotion or oil is applied through various techniques to the professionally draped areas of pain or tension. Each artful stroke has a purpose: an effleurage, which feels long and gliding, helps to increase circulation; petrissage is effective at compressing and lifting tissue through kneading and wringing to release fascia; frictions move tissue under the skin to decrease muscle tension and reduce adhesions; vibrations aid in stimulating the nervous system; and tapotement, which utilizes soft rhythmic beating or tapping to tone muscle and soften tissue.
